Lemonade Diet
With an influx in the interest of health, many fad diets have come and gone over the past 30 years or so. As of late, one that has become increasingly popular amongst people to lose weight quickly is 'The Master Cleanse', commonly known as the Lemonade Diet. First introduced in 1976 by Peter Burroughs, Beyoncé brought lost 22lbs on the diet in 2006 for her role in Dreamgirls. This catapulted the diet into the public eye.
So what is the Lemonade Diet? Drinking lemonade all day? Sounds easy enough right? Not! The procedure is much like a fasting experience. You are held to a strict liquid diet, a concoction made of fresh lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper mixed into water for a minimum 10 days.

The Official Ingredients are:
2 Tablespoons of lemon juice
2 Tablespoons of maple syrup (organic if possible)
A pinch of cayenne pepper
Mix into 16oz of pure water, drink cold, at room temperature, or as a tea.
Whenever you feel hungry, drink the concoction. Your hunger should subside by about the second or third day.
Perhaps the worst part about the diet (besides the piercing hunger pangs in the early stages) is the detoxification that's recommended before you begin. Hence, the Saltwater Flush. Basically, you drink 32oz of salt water. When I drank it, I instantly had a flashback of being at the beach as a kid, and a time that I nearly drowned - swallowing about, I'd say, 32oz of ocean water. It is disgusting. Beyond disgusting. I could not even ingest it. Within an hour I had regurgitated about half of it. Needless to say, I am not a fan of SWF. It is however recommended prior to starting The Master Cleanse to rid your body of toxins and waste.
When starting any new diet, or if you are adjusting your diet to a more health conscious one, I would recommend the Lemonade Diet. The discipline required for the diet is a good confidence booster, and should make the remainder of your diet seem easy. Use caution, some side-effects of the diet include dehydration, sore throat from vomiting, and possible long-term colon dysfunction if the diet is abused.
It's always a good idea to consult your Doctor or Nutrionist to help you decide which route is best for you on the quest to lose weight.
Good luck to you! The decision to eat a more healthy diet is always the right one!
